Australia-Asurpriseia

Wow! People tell ya this is a love story. DEAD WRONG. This is no love story. In fact its no were near it. Its a epic waar movie with a little love, lots of drama, and some real big issues ...

In 1939, Lady Sarah Ashley travels from England to northern Australia to force her philandering husband to sell his faltering Australian cattle station he also sends a trusted catle drover, called simply "Drover", to Darwin to transport her to Faraway Downs. Lady Sarah's husband is murdered shortly before she arrives. Meanwhile, cattle station manager Neil Fletcher is trying to gain control of Faraway Downs, so that Lesley 'King' Carney can have a complete cattle monopoly in the Northern Teritory, which will give him negotiating leverage with the Australian army. Fletcher also claims to Lady Sarah that the murderer of her husband is an Aboriginal elder with magical powers, "King George".

The childless Lady Sarah is captivated by the young boy Nullah, who was born to an Aboriginal mother and an unknown white father. Nullah tells her that he has seen her cattle being driven onto Carney's land — in other words, stolen from her. Because of this, Fletcher mistreats Nullah and threatens him and his mother, after which Lady Sarah fires Fletcher and decides to try and run the cattle station herself. When Nullah and his mother hide from the white authorities by entering a water tower, his mother drowns. Lady Sarah comforts Nullah by singing the song "Over the Rainbow" from the film The Wizard of Oz. Nullah tells her that "King George" is his grandfather, and that like "King George" he too is a "magic man".

Lady Sarah persuades Drover to take the cattle to Darwin for sale. Drover, a white man, is friendly with the Aborigines, and therefore shunned by many of the other whites in the territory. It is revealed that he had married an Aboriginal woman, but she had died after being refused medical treatment in a local hospital because of her race. Drover leads a team of six other riders, including Lady Sarah, Drover's Aboriginal brother-in-law Magarri, Nullah, and the station's accountant Kipling Flynn, to drive the 1,500 cattle to Darwin. Carney's men set large fires to make the cattle stampede, and Flynn is killed. However, at the last minute, Nullah stops the cattle from stampeding over a cliff, by apparantly using magic learned from his grandfather. Lady Sarah and Drover develop a romance, and she gains a new appreciation for the Australian territory. But Carney's men poison all the water sources along the cattle-drive route, so the group risks driving the cattle through the dangerous Never Never desert, which they accomplish with the help of "King George". Then, when at last delivering the cattle in Darwin, the group has to race them onto the ship before Carney's cattle are loaded.

Two years pass and Lady Sarah, Nullah, and Drover live together happily at Faraway Downs. However, Fletcher kills Carney and frames it as a tragic accident, marries his daughter Cath Carney, takes over Carney's cattle empire, and then continues to menace Lady Sarah. It is determined that Fletcher was the actual murderer of Lady Sarah's husband, and that Fletcher is also almost certainly the father of Nullah. Nullah is drawn to perform a ceremonial coming-of-age with his grandfather "King George", but is instead captured by the authorities and sent to live on Mission Island with the rest of the half-Aboriginal children. Lady Sarah vows to find him again somehow, but first works as a radio operator in Darwin during the escalation of WWII. When the Japanese the island and Darwin in 1942, Lady Sarah fears that Nullah was killed.

Drover, who had quarrelled with Lady Sarah and had gone droving apparently never to return, hears (mistakenly) that she has been killed in the bombing of Darwin. (It is later revealed that the dead woman thought to be Sarah is in fact Catherine Fletcher, who had volunteered to take Sarah's shift at army radio headquarters so Sarah could go to Nullah earlier.) Drover finds out about Nullah's abduction to Mission Island, and sets out with Magarri and Ivan (the hotelier) to rescue Nullah and the other children from the island using a sailboat. Magarri sacrifices himself to buy the others more time during the escape, and is shot by the Japanese. The others all make it safely back to Darwin. Meanwhile, Lady Sarah has sold Faraway Downs to Fletcher, and is leaving the Northern Territory that morning, since she believes there is nothing more to hold her there. But when Drover and the children sail back into port at Darwin, Nullah plays his harmonica with the tune of "Over the Rainbow". Lady Sarah hears the music, abandons her trip, and the three are reunited. Fletcher, who knows Nullah is the one link to his disreputable past that can ruin him, and rails that the boy must have cursed him, attempts to shoot Nullah, but is speared by King George and falls dead. Lady Sarah, Drover, and Nullah return to the safety of remote Faraway Downs. On the way back to Faraway Downs, King George calls for Nullah, his grandson, to go walkabout. The movie ends with Nullah taking of his clothes and walking away with his grandfather.

Inkheart

Mortimer "Mo" Folchart (Brendan Fraser) and his 12-year-old daughter, Meggie (Eliza Bennett), share a passion for books. What they also share is an extraordinary gift for bringing characters from books to life when they read aloud. But there is a danger: when a character is brought to life from a book, a real person disappears into its pages.

On one of their trips to a secondhand book shop, Mo hears voices he hasn't heard for years, and when he locates the book they're coming from, it sends a shiver up his spine. It's Inkheart, a book filled with illustrations of medieval castles and strange creatures--a book he's been searching for since Meggie was three years old, when her mother, Resa, vanished into its mystical world.

But Mo's plan to use the book to find and rescue Resa is thwarted when Capricorn, the evil villain of Inkheart, kidnaps Meggie and, discovering she has inherited her father's gift, demands that she bring his most powerful ally to life--the Shadow. Determined to rescue his daughter and send the fictional characters back where they belong, Mo assembles a small group of friends and family--some from the real world, some from the pages of books--and embarks on a daring and perilous journey to set things right.

VALKYRIE

During WWII, German Colonel Claus Philipp Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg is severely wounded in Africa, and returns home to Nazi Germany. In Germany, Major General Tresckow attempts to assassinate Hitler by delivering a bomb in a wine case to kill Hitler on his plane in mid-air, but the bomb fails to detonate. Tresckow safely retrieves it to conceal his intent and considers his next course of action. He has General Olbricht bring Stauffenberg to the secret committee, including members General Beck, Dr.Goedeler, and Witzleben, that plots to assassinate Hitler. The colonel suggests using the plan Operation Valkyrie, which involves the deployment of the Reserve Army to maintain order, to take control of the government after successfully assassinating Hitler. The plotters agree to rewrite the plan to exclude the Schutzsstaffle, whom they do not trust, and they attempt to bring General Fromm, the head of the Reserve Army, into the fold. With the rewritten plan needing to be signed off by Hitler , Stauffenberg visits the Führer at his Berghof residence in Bavaria. Hitler, with his inner circle before him, praises Stauffenberg's sacrifices and signs off on the plan without fully examining the modifications, trusting that the changes are adequate. The plotters plan to assassinate Hitler as well as the SS head Himmler at the bunker Wolf's Lair, and Colonel Mertz instructs the committee members in how to use pencil dentinators. Stauffenberg reaches out to General Fellgiebel, in charge of communications at Wolf's Lair, to cut off communications at the right time. The colonel attends a strategy meeting at Wolf's Lair with the bomb in his briefcase, but with Himmler not present at the meeting, Stauffenberg does not get the go-ahead from the committee leaders to detonate the bomb. In the meantime, the Reserve Army is mobilized by Olbricht, unbeknownst to Fromm, to stand by. With no action taken, Stauffenberg safely extracts himself and the bomb from the bunker, and the Reserve Army is ordered to stand down, believing that the mobilization was training. The colonel goes to the committee to protest the indecisiveness and blames the political intent of Goerdeler, who is intended to be chancellor after the coup. Stauffenberg demands the presence of another military opinion in the committee, nominating Mertz. Beck informs Goerdeler that the SS have a warrant for the politician's arrest and implores him to leave the country, bringing Mertz into the fold.A second plan is formulated with two pencil detonators prepared. Stauffenberg and his lieutenant Haeften return to Wolf's Lair. To Stauffenberg's dismay, the colonel discovers that the strategy meeting is being held in an open-window summer hut, where the plotters had intended to detonate the bomb within the walls of the bunker for maximum damage. Stauffenberg has Haeften wait with a getaway car, and the colonel leaves the briefcase at the meeting. He calls for the go-ahead from the committee, but without Himmler at the meeting, no order is given by Beck or Olbricht. Stauffenberg talks to Mertz and agrees to go ahead with the assassination. With the bomb armed, Stauffenberg leaves the hut for the getaway car. In the meantime, Stauffenberg's briefcase is knocked over and replaced against the leg of the table opposite Hitler. When the bomb explodes, Stauffenberg believes that the assassination was a success and flees the bunker. Fellgiebel calls Mertz about the explosion but does not clearly convey whether the Führer is dead or not. The general then cuts off communications between Wolf's Lair and the outside. While Stauffenberg returns to Berlin, Olbricht refuses to mobilize the Reserve Army until he knows without a doubt that Hitler is dead. Behind Olbricht's back, Mertz issues the order for mobilization before Stauffenberg's return. With Operation Valkyrie underway, Stauffenberg and the other plotters make orders to arrest SS officers and to take control of Berlin's government quarter, which would allow them to command the rest of Nazi Germany's territories. Rumors spread that Hitler survived the assassination attempt, but Stauffenberg dismisses them as SS propaganda. Fromm finds out that communications lines to Wolf's Lair are working and from Field Marshal Keitel at the bunker that Hitler is still alive. The general resists the plotters, resulting in his arrest. Orders come out of Wolf's Lair that contradict Stauffenberg's orders, and both are sent through out of the communication director's fears of wrongful interpretation. Despite the plotters' partial control of Berlin, their ruse is discovered by the Reserve Army, who releases the SS officers and pursues the plotters while the communications director cuts off their lines. They are detained and eventually executed; at Stauffenberg's exuction firing squad, he yells out, "Long live sacred Germany!" before being killed.

This movie was awesome. Tom Cruise did wonderful. I never knew this much about the July 20th plot. But don't think this is you date movie!

Bedtime Stories

Although I thoroughly enjoyed it I was not impressed. Well, it was Adam Sandler, I'm never really impressed. The best movie I've ever been impressed with was 50 First Dates. But, Click bit the dust. Anyway...

Skeeter Bronson is a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true. He attempts to take advantage of the phenomenon, incorporating his own aspirations into one outlandish tale after another, but it's the kids' unexpected contributions that turn Skeeter's life upside down. In the meantime, he falls in love with the kids' teacher, Jill and must come up with an idea to help create his hotel's second venture with help from his friend.
